Why We Like It

First and foremost, the Nightingale Quilt has such a great story behind the design. Before Brittany was a pattern designer at Lo & Behold Stitchery, she was a nurse, and she designed this quilt to represent the healthcare profession: the center of each block represents the "Red Cross" and Florence Nightingale is the founder of modern nursing. What a wonderful dedication to the healthcare workers in our communities!

It's based on fat quarters, something all quilters have lots of. Each fat quarter is cut exactly the same, so it's easy to cut and it's fun to mix and match colors for so many fun color combinations. And it's block-based, so it's fun to sew in a group.

There are 5 sizes to choose from, and we love that the fabric requirements are simple. Our solid bundles work great!

    Tips + Tutorials

    • The pattern features instructions with diagrams throughout, as well as a coloring page to come up with your own color combinations.
    • Sew Along: Brittany's Nightingale Quilt Along, a 7-week sewalong Apr 5 - May 31, 2021. Sewfinity is a sponsor!

    Inspiration + Ideas

Match-making our Kona Cotton Solids to the Nightingale was really fun and it was so inspiring to see so many color combos come to life. Enjoy these digital mockups!

    ANALOGOUS

The large throw size calls for 20 fat quarters of color fabrics (plus 2 yards of background), and wouldn't you know that 4 of our Monochrome 5 FQ bundles work perfectly?!

Choose 4 neighboring colors on the CMY Color Wheel and you get an analogous color combo. Here are some ideas on light, medium, and dark backgrounds.

Orange + Red + Red Magenta + Magenta:

    COMPLEMENTARY

Combine 3 analogous colors with one complementary color on the opposite end of the color wheel, and you get these fun versions. Again, grab 4 of our 5FQ bundles, a couple yards of background, and make a large throw!
