SewPINK: Glo and Go
Share
My friend Annie Unrein of byAnnie.com started the #SewPINK Initiative, an online event focused on breast cancer awareness. Her goals are to encourage people to get their screenings and to donate to breast cancer research. This is our 4th year participating, and we are only too happy to participate and to help support this worthy cause.
Here's what I came up with: an ombre pink Glo and Go essentials wrap and bag. Annie has so many fantastic sewing patterns, and it's so fun to see what our fabrics look like in her projects. I have to say I love how these turned out!
The Glo and Go pattern includes 2 projects: a wrap and a bag.
WRAP
This was the first time I used vinyl and Slicker iron-on vinyl. I was surprised that it wasn't really a big deal to sew. I was prepared to use a special teflon presser foot for my sewing machine, but I didn't need it. Also, to mark the pocket divider lines, I used my hera marker and it worked out great.
Watching the Add-On video that comes with the pattern really helps out a lot overall. When you've watched Annie make the project, the sewing steps are more familiar when it comes time to making it yourself, and you're just more at ease.
Here's what I used to make the wrap:
- Ombre - Hot Pink - 1 fat quarter (FQ) for the outside
- Kona Cotton - Shell - 1 FQ for the inside
- small-scale floral - 1 FQ for the binding/strap (I found it at a yard sale!)
- Soft and Stable [Amazon]
- fold-over elastic - Lipstick
- mesh fabric - white
- vinyl for the flap
- Slicker iron-on glossy vinyl for the lining
- fold-over elastic - Lipstick
- 1" widemouth slider - Nickel

I love the very pale shell pink interior and how sweet that small-scale floral is with the pinks.
BAG
The outside of the bag is patchwork of half-square triangles (HST) in a pink ombre. Using 2.75" squares I made a total of 48 HSTs trimmed to 2.25", sewed them together with a scant 1/4" into a 4x12 grid. It barely ended up being the size of the exterior bag pattern piece! Yes!
Here's what I used to make the bag:
- Ombre - Hot Pink - from the leftovers of the 1FQ for the wrap, I cut 24 2.75" squares for the HSTs. (I love it when I use leftovers!)
- Kona Cotton - Snow - 24 2.75" squares for the HSTs
- small-scale floral - 1 FQ for the inside - (yard sale find!)
- Soft and Stable [Amazon]
- Aurifil Cotton 50wt thread - Light Sand - for piecing and quilting
- Slicker iron-on glossy vinyl for the lining
- 30" double-slide zipper - Lipstick

I love the ombre effect of the HST patchwork, how it looks different on the front versus the back, how well the Lipstick zipper matches the Hot Pink ombre fabric, and how structured the bag is due to the Soft & Stable. The zipper construction method was different than anything I had done before - I was a little nervous at that part, but it turned out great.
I especially like how the lining is nice and tidy. I can't stand floppy bag interiors. So I really appreciate Annie's detailed instruction that gives such professional and precise results. Thanks Annie!

I am hoping for to make some bags next year. Let’s not forget powder Blue for male breast cancer, my son-n-law is a 5-year survivor.
I am so glad I was introduced to your projects through the wonderful cause.
I like both of these projects. I’m looking forward to sewing with vinyl now. I love learning new things. Thank you for your support of breast cancer awareness.
I love the projects above. Thank you for helping support breast cancer awareness.
