Hi there, I'm Angela and I own Sewfinity. Welcome!
We love participating in SewPINK each year - this is our 7th year! What's SewPINK? It's an online event focused on breast cancer awareness hosted by the wonderful team at ByAnnie. Their goals are to raise awareness, promote screenings, foster community, and support breast cancer research.
Last year I shared a personal snippet regarding dense breast tissue. To read about that, visit our post: SewPINK: Contain Yourself.
Our project for this year is a small lunch bag with ByAnnie's Out to Lunch 2.0 Sewing Pattern. I think the shape of the bag so cute, and it could be used for so many other things besides lunch. I made quite a few mods to my bag, read on for that.

The past couple years I curated fabric bundles in honor of SewPINK (2025, 2024), and here is this year's: SewPINK 2026 Fat Quarter Bundle. These fabrics are all Grunge quilting cotton by Moda Fabrics. The bright and juicy colors evoke happiness, don't they?!
I chose 6 colors to make the bag in the small size: Raspberry and Salmon for the exterior, Duchess and Ballet Slipper for the interior, Winter White for the binding and side panels, and Nectar for the interior stabilizer sleeve.

Raspberry and Salmon make a fun color block option for the outside - I just love colorblocking. And a one-inch quilting grid makes it easy and modern. The way this bag opens up wide is great, and the side panels keep contents nicely enclosed.

Perfect size for your sandwich, clementines, and a can of soda, with plenty of room on top for a bag o' chips.

Or put your sewing stuff in it! A small iron fits inside, along with a bunch of other sewing necessities.

And you could put more in the exterior side pockets. I love the option of adding that little triangle ring to the handles in case you want to add a carrying strap. I used our cotton webbing 1-inch wide in Fuchsia, which matches almost perfectly to the Lipstick zipper and Raspberry Grunge.

And surprise, I inserted our free Awareness Ribbon FPP block into the stabilizer sleeve! I used the 6.5-inch block and added strips to the top and sides to get the size of the pattern piece. I slid in a rectangle of plastic canvas into the sleeve and tucked it into the bottom. Nice fit!
And you'll notice that I omitted all the interior pocket options. I feel that it's a great bag without all that stuff, plus I got to skip a bunch of pattern steps!

But really, you could opt to not even make that stabilizer sleeve. It seems to be pretty sturdy either way.
I like my bag interiors to be a light color, so I can easily see everything inside. So I saved the lightest Grunge fabric colors for the lining: Duchess, Ballet Slipper, and Winter White.
To finish the binding, I decided to hand-sew the bound edges in the very last step, just so I didn't have to put my machine through that bulk. Since the bag is petite, it wasn't a big deal at all.

Here are the supplies I used to make the bag in the small size:
- Out to Lunch 2.0 Sewing Pattern
- SewPINK 2026 Fat Quarter Bundle
- Soft and Stable [Amazon]
-
Signature Cotton 40wt thread - Oyster Shell - for the entire project: quilting, construction, hand-sewing. This color is a light warm grey that blends nicely with the Grunge fabric.
- Cotton Webbing - 1 inch - Fuchsia - for the handles. Such a simple option that looks great.
- Triangle Ring - 1 inch - Antique Brass - set of 2
- Zipper - Double Slide - 30 inch - Lipstick - an almost perfect match to the Raspberry fabric and Fuchsia handles
- Superior Sewing Machine Needles - Topstitch - 14/90 - for the entire project. Fantastic for guiding your thread through all the layers of material.
- Wonder Clips - very helpful to keep thick layers in place during bag making. There are cheap knock-off versions that can easily break, and then there are the good ones by Clover. These are the good ones.
- Sewing PIns - mostly for marking centers of pattern pieces.
-
Sewline Fabric Mechanical Pencil Trio - for the markings you'll make on the handles. The white pencil shows up nicely on the fuchsia webbing. When you're done sewing, just spritz with water and lightly rub out the marks to make disappear.

I am just so pleased with this little lunch bag. It's the perfect little size and when you finish sewing it, it just looks so good that you swell with pride. I love that feeling!
